Electrical Apprentice – Diageo Isipingo (South Africa)

1. Job Purpose

To assist the maintenance team and qualified electricians in installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical and automated equipment used in FMCG production plants while gaining practical training to become a qualified electrician.

2. Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Assist electricians with maintenance and repair of production machinery.

• Help install and maintain motors, sensors, conveyors, and control panels.

• Assist in troubleshooting electrical faults on manufacturing equipment.

• Perform preventive maintenance on electrical and automated systems.

• Support the maintenance team during machine breakdowns to reduce downtime.

• Assist with PLC panels, drives, and industrial control systems.

• Read and interpret electrical diagrams, wiring diagrams, and schematics.

• Help with testing electrical circuits and equipment using testing instruments.

• Ensure all work follows health, safety, and food-safety regulations in the factory.

• Keep tools, spare parts, and work areas clean and organized.

3. Minimum Requirements (Typical in South Africa)

• Matric / Grade 12

• N2–N6 Electrical Engineering qualification

• Basic knowledge of industrial electrical systems

• Ability to work shifts in a factory environment

• Understanding of safety standards in manufacturing plants

4. Skills Required

• Electrical troubleshooting

• Basic industrial automation knowledge

• Attention to detail

• Ability to work under pressure during breakdowns

• Teamwork with production and maintenance teams
