Duties & Responsibilities

Prepare, cook, and present meals according to established menus and recipes. Ensure all food is prepared and served to the highest quality standards. Maintain food safety, hygiene, and health and safety standards at all times. Manage food stock levels, stock rotation, and minimize wastage. Assist with menu planning and implementation of innovative food offerings. Supervise and support kitchen staff to ensure efficient kitchen operations. Conduct daily quality checks on food preparation and presentation. Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and client requirements. Monitor portion control and food costs to achieve budget targets. Maintain a clean, organised, and efficient kitchen environment. Produce menus which demonstrate flair, imagination and an upmarket awareness that meets customer needs and VIP function preferences. To attend seminars and training courses as and when directed. To further your own knowledge of management methods and principles to ensure future advancement and further upgrading in management standards for the profession as a whole. Stay abreast with food trends as well as best practices.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 / Matric.
  • Relevant Culinary Qualification or Professional Cookery Certificate.
  • Minimum 2–3 years' experience as a Chef within contract catering, hospitality, healthcare, corporate dining, or a similar environment.
  • Sound knowledge of food safety, HACCP, and hygiene standards.
  • Strong food preparation, presentation, and kitchen management skills.
  • Good at controlling costs and doing menu planning
  • Exposure to upmarket function catering
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Computer literate
