Education Specialist

<p><strong>Role&nbsp;Purpose and&nbsp;Overview</strong></p><p>The&nbsp;Education Specialist&nbsp;will lead the design, delivery, and quality assurance of teaching and learning interventions to improve learning outcomes&nbsp;and retention&nbsp;for children in Lagos. The role will strengthen teacher capacity through high-quality training, coaching, mentoring, and performance monitoring, ensuring effective implementation of inclusive&nbsp;accelerated learning approaches. Working closely with a team of&nbsp;Learning&nbsp;Advisors, the Education Specialist will support teachers to address learning loss, improve classroom practice, and enable all children—particularly the most&nbsp;vulnerable—to enrol, remain in, and succeed at school.&nbsp;With&nbsp;a&nbsp;strong commitment to safeguarding and child protection, ensuring that all interventions promote safe, inclusive, and protective learning environments and&nbsp;comply with&nbsp;organisational safeguarding standards and best practice.</p><p>Key Responsibilities:&nbsp;</p><p>Instructional Design &amp; Quality Assurance:&nbsp;</p><ul><li>Design and oversee accelerated learning and&nbsp;street corner targeted instruction&nbsp;implementation,&nbsp;focusing on Foundational Literacy and Numeracy&nbsp;for out-of-school and in-school children.&nbsp;</li></ul><ul><li>Develop and adapt training modules, session plans, and teacher manuals in close consultation with the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LASUBEB).&nbsp;</li></ul><ul><li>Ensure all instructional content is aligned with state and national curriculum standards and inclusive education policies.&nbsp;</li></ul><p>Teacher Training &amp; Coaching:&nbsp;</p><ul><li>Develop initial&nbsp;teacher training programme, followed by regular refresher sessions and&nbsp;on-the-job&nbsp;coaching.&nbsp;</li></ul><ul><li>Introduce and&nbsp;monitor&nbsp;the use of&nbsp;targeted&nbsp;instruction&nbsp;in classrooms, grouping students by learning level and adapting instruction accordingly.&nbsp;</li></ul><ul><li>Facilitate termly Communities of Practice meetings for teachers to share best practices and address challenges.&nbsp;</li></ul><ul><li>Train and coach teachers to implement effective, high-impact teaching strategies,&nbsp;including explicit teaching, use of examples, and multiple exposures.&nbsp;</li></ul><ul><li>Conduct regular student assessments using EGRA, EGMA and upper primary assessment tools.&nbsp;</li></ul><ul><li>Support lesson planning, classroom assessments, and instructional delivery.&nbsp;</li></ul><ul><li>Establish and&nbsp;facilitate&nbsp;Communities of Practice (COP) for peer learning, classroom observation, and targeted feedback among teachers.&nbsp;</li></ul><p>Inclusive Education:&nbsp;</p><ul><li>Embed inclusive pedagogies in classrooms, addressing language, gender, and disability needs.&nbsp;</li></ul><ul><li>Collaborate with Learning Managers and School Management Committees to institutionalise inclusive practices and infrastructure adaptations.&nbsp;</li><li>Support the Evidence and Evaluation Unit in collecting, analysing, and using data to inform instructional improvements.&nbsp;</li></ul><ul><li>Collaborate with the Evidence and Evaluation Unit to use real-time data for continuous instructional improvement.&nbsp;</li></ul><p>Stakeholder Engagement:&nbsp;</p><ul><li>Work closely with&nbsp;partners,&nbsp;school leaders, community officers, and local education authorities to ensure effective implementation and sustainability of interventions.&nbsp;</li></ul><ul><li>Advocate for the adoption of proven instructional strategies within state systems.&nbsp;</li></ul><ul><li>Provide&nbsp;accurate&nbsp;verbal and written&nbsp;reporting for impact investor and Lagos SUBEB.&nbsp;</li></ul>
