Organization Overview

Village Enterprise’s mission is to end extreme poverty in rural Africa through entrepreneurship, innovation, and collective action. By empowering women, refugees, and youth to launch small businesses and savings groups, our cost-effective model provides dignified and sustainable pathways for individuals to lift themselves and their families out of extreme poverty for good.  

To date, Village Enterprise has trained 396,872 first-time entrepreneurs, 80% of whom are women, and supported the launch of 120,609 businesses and 9,309 Business Savings Groups (BSGs). These efforts have positively impacted 2,478,065 lives across Africa.  


With operations in Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, and Uganda, and partnerships in other sub-Saharan African countries, Village Enterprise continues to expand its reach. As we scale our impact, our aim remains ambitious yet achievable: to lift 20 million people out of extreme poverty by 2035. 


About the Job:  

Village Enterprise is seeking Enumerators to assist with data collection for the programs implemented in Yumbe, Gulu, Omoro, Agago, Kapelebyong, Alebtong, Katakwi, Kyenjonjo and Kamwenge Districts. 


Job Description

Core Roles:

  • Attend all trainings to understand survey tools, qualitative guides, and protocols.
  • Collect accurate quantitative data from households, businesses, or savings groups digitally.
  • Facilitate group discussions in a neutral, respectful, and engaging manner, ensuring all participants have a chance to contribute.
  • Obtain informed consent from all participants before interviews or discussions.
  • Record qualitative data accurately by taking detailed notes and/or making clear audio recordings (where permitted) during Focus Group Discussions, Key Informant Interviews, and in-depth interviews, in line with provided guides.
  • Translate and transcribe qualitative data (where required) into English or program language.
  • Ensure confidentiality, sensitivity, and professionalism when discussing personal or household information.
  • Accurately record and upload responses into Taro works ensuring daily synchronization.
  • Follow the sampling plan and instructions from supervisors/MEL team for both qualitative and quantitative work.
  • Verify and cross-check information to minimize errors or gaps in data.
  • Report challenges or issues encountered in the field to supervisors promptly.
  • Participate in debriefs, spot checks, and refresher training as needed.
  • Other data collection tasks as assigned. 

Community Liaison: 

  • Expected to always represent the interest of the organization in a professional manner.
  • Expected to explain to any Government official that they may meet on what Village Enterprise program, core values and the role they are playing in this specific community.
  • Provide feedback to the supervisor or country director regarding community concerns on all Village Enterprise operations in the area. 

Safeguarding responsibilities:

  • Continuously sensitize program participants about possible risks of child abuse, sexual/financial exploitation, prevention and response mechanisms. 
  • Report any incident of child or adult safeguarding in program operations for appropriate action and follow up.
  • Ensure compliance with VE’s safeguarding policies and Code of Conduct in all programs, operations and practices.
  • Adhere will all Village enterprise safeguarding related policies. 

Other tasks and responsibilities:

  • Promoting teamwork relating to roles and responsibilities in the organization.
  • Maintaining privacy and confidentiality.
  • Provide verbal and written activity reports on processes and challenges.
  • Responding to any clarifications relating to surveys.
  • Ensure safety of all data collection equipment and machinery. 

Skills and competencies

  • Flexibility to various schedules.
  • Adoptability to changing work demands.
  • Ability to accurately operate mobile data collection technology.
  • Passion in working with illiterate/poor people/people of concern.
  • Excessive movements within rural settings.
  • Ability to speak local languages in Bidibidi and Rhino settlements, Gulu, Omoro, Agago, Kapelebyong, Alebtong, Katakwi, Kyenjojo, Kamwenge is A MUST.

Qualifications 

  • Minimum of Diploma in any discipline with prior experience/exposure in surveys, data collection and research disciplines is an asset.
  • Understanding of the elements of data quality. Prior experience in data collection using mobile technology would be an added advantage.
  • Preference will be highly given to candidates staying within Yumbe, Rhino camp, Gulu, Omoro, Agago, Kapelebyong, Alebtong, Katakwi, Kyenjojo, Kamwenge. Evidence of LC1 introductory letter, stamped with telephone contact should be attached.
