We are seeking a dedicated, compassionate, and service-oriented General Assistant to join our catering team at a leading private hospital. The successful candidate will support the daily food service operation by assisting with food preparation, meal distribution, cleaning, and maintaining high hygiene standards to ensure an exceptional experience for patients, visitors, and hospital staff. Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist with the preparation and portioning of meals according to menu specifications.
- Support the distribution and service of meals to patients, staff, and visitors.
- Assist in the preparation and replenishment of beverage stations and dining areas.
- Ensure patient meal trays are assembled accurately and efficiently.
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness and sanitation in all catering and food service areas.
- Wash dishes, utensils, equipment, and food service areas in accordance with hospital hygiene standards.
- Assist with receiving, storing, rotating, and issuing stock.
- Adhere to hospital food safety, infection control, HACCP, and health and safety procedures at all times.
- Report equipment faults, stock shortages, and safety concerns to management.
- Provide courteous and professional service to patients, visitors, nursing personnel, and hospital staff.
- Assist with special functions, meetings, and events hosted within the hospital.
Skills and Competencies
- Basic understanding of food safety, hygiene, and infection control practices.
- Ability to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays as required.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Physically fit and able to perform manual duties.
- Reliable, punctual, and customer-service orientated.
Qualifications
- Grade 12 or equivalent qualification.
- Previous experience in a hospital, healthcare, catering, hospitality, or food service environment will be advantageous.
