The School of Chemistry in the Faculty of Science at the University of the Witwatersrand is one of the top chemistry departments in South Africa. It is a vibrant and productive department, with over 60 permanent academic and technical staff members and around 180 postgraduate students. We have world-class research programs in analytical, environmental, materials, bioinorganic, organic, physical and theoretical chemistry, with many highly successful interdisciplinary collaborations. Responsibilities
- Responsible for teaching Organic Chemistry at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels
- Expected to actively lead and participate in research and supervise postgraduate students
- Expected to actively pursue research funding opportunities
- Expected to undertake administrative duties and participate in Faculty and University committees
- Expected to engage in community outreach and social responsiveness projects
Requirements
The minimum qualification is a PhD in organic chemistry. Overall responsibilities would include the teaching of general and organic chemistry at undergraduate and Honours levels and the establishment of an independent research programme in organic chemistry. The ability to work in a team environment would be an advantage. Fluency in written and spoken English is essential. Prior experience in lecturing university courses in organic chemistry would be an advantage; as would publications in the field and an indication of high quality or independent research.
