Job Description

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Project Coordinator to lead the aquaculture component of the programme, promoting sustainable practices, capacity building, and knowledge sharing to improve productivity, profitability, and environmental stewardship. The role involves overseeing implementation, providing technical leadership, and collaborating with government, private sector, and industry stakeholders to ensure alignment with project goals and sustainability standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Project Implementation & Coordination
    • Lead planning, implementation, and management of the aquaculture component in line with approved work plans, budgets, donor requirements, and organizational strategy.
    • Track progress, provide regular updates, and contribute to internal and donor reporting.
    • Maintain effective communication with the Programme Manager and team members.
  • Technical Leadership & Advisory
    • Provide technical oversight across aquaculture operations including hatchery management, stocking, feeding, water quality, disease control, harvesting, and waste management.
    • Support development and execution of aquaculture strategies (site/species selection, infrastructure design, and risk mitigation).
    • Conduct feasibility studies, risk assessments, and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
    • Promote adoption of best practices through coaching, mentoring, and regular field visits.
  • Productivity, Innovation & Value Chain Development
    • Analyze production data and performance indicators to improve productivity, efficiency, and profitability.
    • Introduce technologies and practices that enhance production, product quality, and environmental sustainability.
    • Strengthen linkages with input suppliers, hatcheries, and market actors to ensure access to quality inputs and services.
    • Support value addition, post-harvest handling, and market access initiatives.
  • Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning (MEL)
    • Implement MEL systems in line with the organization’s frameworks, ensuring accurate data collection, analysis, and reporting.
    • Monitor performance, document lessons learned, and develop mitigation strategies to address risks and challenges.
  • Stakeholder Engagement & Communication
    • Build and maintain partnerships with government agencies, private sector actors, NGOs, and research institutions.
    • Facilitate knowledge-sharing forums, workshops, and extension services to promote best practices and innovation.
    • Monitor policy developments in aquaculture and advise management accordingly.
    • Support project visibility and communication activities in line with donor guidelines.
  • Training & Capacity Building
    • Design and deliver training programs for farmers, local service providers, and other stakeholders.
    • Develop training materials and provide technical backstopping to ensure quality delivery.
    • Strengthen capacity of local communities, especially youth and women, to adopt sustainable aquaculture practices and access economic opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Must Have:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Aquaculture, Fisheries, or a related field
    • Experience working in international projects or managing international stakeholders
    • At least 5 years’ experience in aquaculture value chain development with strong market engagement
    • Proven technical expertise across aquaculture systems and certification standards
    • Experience implementing or managing smallholder aquaculture projects
    • Familiarity with digital data collection and reporting tools
    • Strong understanding of market linkages for small-scale producers
