QA Engineering Team Lead

Purpose of the Job:

The purpose of a QA Engineering Team Lead is to lead a QA engineering team responsible for effective test planning, execution, and automation, ensuring that software solutions meet defined quality, performance, and security standards prior to release.

Job Objectives

• Test Planning & Execution:
  • Lead test planning, estimation, and execution activities for assigned systems, products, or delivery streams.
  • Ensure functional and non-functional testing is executed in line with agreed standards and timelines.
  • Validate test coverage across applications, integrations, APIs, and data flows.
• Test Automation & Technical Quality:
  • Implement and maintain automated tests using approved frameworks and tools.
  • Integrate automated test execution into CI/CD pipelines in collaboration with engineering teams.
  • Support shift-left testing practices through early involvement in requirements and design reviews.
• Defect Management & Quality Assurance:
  • Oversee defect identification, logging, prioritisation, and resolution tracking.
  • Ensure that quality gates and exit criteria are met before releases are approved.
  • Provide clear quality status reporting to delivery and programme stakeholders.
• Team Leadership & Delivery Management:
  • Lead, coach, and support QA engineers and testers within the team.
  • Allocate work, manage capacity, and ensure delivery commitments are met.
  • Drive adherence to QA standards, tools, and ways of working.
• Collaboration & Continuous Improvement:
  • Work closely with developers, business analysts, product owners, and architects to improve quality outcomes.
  • Contribute to retrospectives, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Provide input into testing processes, tools, and practices to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.

Qualifications

• Degree or diploma in IT, Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience (essential).
• ISTQB Foundation certification (essential).

Experience

• 5 –7+ years’ experience in software testing and quality assurance (essential).
• Hands-on experience with test automation, test management tools, and defect tracking systems (essential).
• Experience working in Agile and DevOps delivery environments (preferred).
