A vacancy exists for a Senior Actuarial Specialist within Old Mutual Corporate. The primary purpose of the role is to support the optimisation, governance and ongoing development of the Corporate Segment's pricing infrastructure, processes and technology capabilities.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Head of Pricing Infrastructure to enhance pricing operations through improved systems, automation, governance frameworks and technology solutions. The role combines actuarial insight with strong technical, operational, governance and stakeholder management skills.

The incumbent will collaborate with actuarial teams, operational areas, business stakeholders and IT to understand business and operational requirements, translate these into practical technology solutions, and support the successful delivery of pricing infrastructure initiatives. The role will provide technical guidance and mentorship to more junior team members, support governance and control frameworks, and contribute to the ongoing improvement of pricing operations and infrastructure capabilities.

Key Result Areas

1. Pricing Infrastructure and Solution Development

  • Stabilise, optimise and maintain existing pricing infrastructure and related systems.

  • Develop and maintain the Online Risk quotation platform.

  • Standardise, consolidate and enhance experience-rated pricing tools.

  • Design, build and maintain integrations with third-party systems (e.g. Ghost Draft).

  • Support the migration of Excel-based models to more scalable and efficient technology platforms (e.g. Python, C#).

  • Analyse and resolve issues within existing pricing systems and processes, including legacy and "black-box" solutions.

  • Identify opportunities for short-term improvements while contributing towards the longer-term pricing infrastructure vision.

  • Build, test and implement new pricing solutions and infrastructure capabilities.

  • Collaborate with data and operational teams to ensure pricing infrastructure supports evolving data requirements and processes.

2. Automation and Operational Efficiency

  • Identify process inefficiencies and develop automation solutions to improve pricing operations.

  • Develop and maintain infrastructure supporting bulk review and automated pricing processes.

  • Enhance model scalability to support increased automation and straight-through processing.

  • Support the adoption of artificial intelligence and emerging technologies within pricing operations.

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives that improve operational efficiency and reduce manual intervention.

3. Governance, Controls and Quality Assurance

  • Maintain and enhance pricing governance frameworks, standards and documentation.

  • Establish and implement a central governance framework across the Corporate Segment pricing environment.

  • Develop and monitor performance metrics for pricing systems and infrastructure.

  • Perform testing, validation and quality assurance activities for new developments and enhancements.

  • Proactively identify, manage and resolve system issues, risks and control weaknesses.

  • Design and implement deployment and release management processes aligned with governance requirements.

  • Develop automated governance, reporting and audit-support capabilities.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Actuarial student making good progress with actuarial examinations.

  • 5+ years of relevant experience in actuarial, pricing, technology or operations-related roles would be advantageous; however, strong candidates demonstrating the required skills, capabilities and potential may also be considered.

  • Experience in actuarial modelling, pricing operations, process automation, governance and solution development will be advantageous.

  • Experience within Group Risk pricing will be advantageous.

Technical Skills

  • Advanced Microsoft Office and Microsoft 365 skills.

  • Advanced Excel and VBA development skills.

  • Strong Python and/or C# development capability would be advantageous.

  • Experience with, or a strong interest in, the Microsoft Power Platform, including Power BI, Power Automate and Copilot Studio.

  • Strong stakeholder engagement, communication and solution design skills.

  • An ability to translate business requirements into practical and scalable technology solutions.

Education

NQF Level 7 - Degree, Advance Diploma or Postgraduate Certificate or equivalent
