The Staff Nurse / Registered Nurse is responsible for delivering high-quality, patient-centered nursing care in accordance with established clinical protocols and standards. The role involves assessing patient needs, planning and implementing care, monitoring progress, and collaborating with the multidisciplinary healthcare team to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care plans
  • Administer medications and treatments safely and accurately
  • Monitor patient vital signs and condition, reporting any changes promptly
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records and documentation
  • Assist with medical procedures and support physicians during examinations and treatments
  • Educate patients and their families on health conditions, treatments, and post-discharge care
  • Ensure infection control protocols and safety standards are strictly followed
  • Respond to emergencies and provide appropriate nursing interventions
  • Supervise and support enrolled nurses, nursing assistants, and other support staff
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and uphold ethical nursing practices

Minimum Requirements

  • Diploma or Degree in Nursing
  • Registered with the relevant Nursing Council (e.g., SANC – South African Nursing Council)
  • Valid practicing license
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (Advanced Life Support advantageous)
  • Minimum 1–3 years’ clinical experience (preferred, depending on facility)
