Role Summary

The Sustainability Regional Programme Manager (RPM) will be responsible for all projects within the Environmental Sustainability team, taking full responsibility for project planning and implementation. The position will be national with travel between regions as required.

The incumbent will be specifically responsible for:

  • Managing the interface between the Project Sponsor/Owner and project teams
  • Regularly communicating with management regarding the program's status
  • Strategising, implementing, and maintaining program initiatives
  • Developing projects for approval aligned to regional or business strategy
  • Identifying and mitigating project risks
  • Ensuring successful delivery of project benefits
  • Monitoring projects and programs according to project management methodology
  • Attending relevant project/programme meetings and workshops
  • Providing input into project planning
  • Facilitating design reviews and approvals
  • Ensuring project procurement processes align with organisational policy
  • Providing project/programme leadership, guidance, and governance
  • Planning, prioritising, tracking, and remediating task allocation
  • Monitoring, auditing, and correcting regional cash flows and project payments
  • Building and motivating a performing team
  • Ensuring lessons learnt are recorded for continuous improvement
  • Ensuring project team compliance with project handover processes
  • Facilitating asset verification and capitalisation of completed projects
  • Taking overall accountability for all projects from initiation to closure

Key Work Output and Accountabilities

Disruptive Innovation
  • Providing project input into financial, executive, or board submissions
  • Managing regional budgets and cost control
  • Preparing, monitoring, and implementing budgets for capital projects
  • Managing project budgets and approvals frameworks
Program Management
  • Liaising with Business Unit Heads to align project objectives with business goals
  • Establishing priorities within the overall program
  • Planning, coordinating, and implementing regional projects
  • Coordinating and mobilising full professional teams on projects
  • Attending to property-related matters
  • Ensuring project delivery teams update and use the PPO system
  • Monitoring project and programme performance
  • Implementing and managing customer experience
  • Managing resources and assigning additional resources when needed
  • Identifying, selecting, and prioritising new projects
  • Providing advice and recommendations to senior management
  • Working with customers and operation teams to ensure service improvement activities
  • Providing an effective on-call response service
  • Researching and staying abreast of best practice
Risk Management
  • Applying risk management principles to all projects
  • Ensuring quality control of projects
  • Appropriate contract management of all agreements
Policies and Procedures
  • Assisting with improving/developing and maintaining group project and engineering policies
  • Implementing and monitoring sound procurement principles
  • Following all Netcare policies and procedures
  • Ensuring compliance with Configuration Management, Environmental Sustainability, Asset Management Shared Services, and Project Support Unit requirements
Reporting
  • Attending Project Portfolio Meetings (PPM), Regional Project Steercom (RPS), and other meetings
  • Preparing and presenting reports in PPM and RPS meetings
  • Chairing Regional Programme Meetings
  • Attending and chairing Project Steercom meetings
  • Ensuring accurate reporting of progress, budgets, and general reporting
  • Reporting to the monthly PSU review meeting
  • Attending Clinical Design Committee (CDR), Technical Design Review Committee (TDR), Shut-down committee meetings, Procurement committee meetings, and Project Hand-over committee meetings
Stakeholder Relations
  • Liaising with local and national statutory authorities and Department of Health
  • Working effectively and cooperatively with others
  • Creating and maintaining a positive environment
  • Developing collaborative relationships
Management & Development
  • Managing and supervising professionals
  • Responsible for the general management of staff on multiple projects
  • Responsible for the coordination and management of external contractors/consultants
  • Mentoring staff within the Department
  • Assigning personnel to projects and directing their activities
Procurement
  • Ensuring all projects are subjected to procurement processes
  • Ensuring group BBBEE spend targets are met

Skills Profile

Education
  • Construction-related degree or relevant NQF level 7 qualification is essential
  • Construction Project Management qualification will be advantageous
  • Membership of a relevant professional body such as SACPCMP, is recommended
Work Experience
  • A minimum of 10 years of progressive project management/programme management experience
  • Experience in project planning, project management, and team leadership
  • Demonstrated ability to influence, educate, and interact with diverse teams across the organisation
  • Experience in working with programs such as Microsoft Office (word, excel, power point etc), Microsoft Projects, or other related project management software
Knowledge
  • Construction industry knowledge. Healthcare-related experience would be highly advantageous
  • Knowledge pertaining to statutory and regulatory requirements within the construction industry. Healthcare-related knowledge would be highly advantageous
