Job Description
Purpose of the job: Supervise, support and lead quality improvements initiatives on site. Monitor adherence to the quality management system through verification (audits) and the review of the systems. Additionally he/she will be responsible for supporting the development and maintain a quality, food safety and customer-focus culture within the site.
Responsibilities
- Conduct analytical and rheological tests on samples: Incoming raw material, during production as well as during packaging
- Conduct Daily Quality Control checks: Final packed product
- Ensure accuracy: Control sample Methodology
- Self maintenance
- Ensure safety and cleanliness: Adhere to master cleaning schedule Adhere to safe operating procedures
- Assist in the Maintenance of the Quality Control Systems: Assist in the functional activities of the quality control laboratory and test bakery
- Communicating the quality of daily milled and packed products to HOD and Production
- Managing laboratory staff to ensure effective operation of the laboratory and test bakery at all times
- Plan maintenance and servicing of laboratory and test bakery equipment and machinery, ensure accuracy of equipment and results at all times
- Ensure that all test procedures and methods are properly understood, carried out and evaluated
- Manage timeously collation of results and compilation of reports which will ensure actions taken are effective
- Maintain general standard of housekeeping and safety
- Review work instruction and report any changes required
- Assisting the Management of Premier prerequisite program (PRP) and HACCP through implementation, training, maintenance, verification and review thereof to ensure adherence at all times to all standards and requirement
- Assisting the Manager with departmental functions and having the role of 2IC.
- Audits/Verification: Audits is conducted as required on the QA system Quality inspections is conducted as required Hygiene and pest control inspections is conducted Audit Non-conformances are identified, communicated to HOD’s and actioned Verify actions taken to ensure that it is well implemented and effectiveness thereof
Qualification Requirements
Qualifications: Matric Qualified Food Technologist or Degree in Food Science or Biochemical Degree, or Analytical Chemistry Degree
Experience Requirements
Experience: Min of 3 – 5 years’ experience in FMCG Laboratory 2 Years’ experience in a Supervisory role 2 Years’ experience in the milling industry Computer literacy
Skills and Competencies
Knowledge, skills and abilities): • Accuracy • Calculations • Good interpersonal skills • Good communication skills (verbal and written)
Working Conditions
Other Requirements: Be prepared to work extended hours when required Factory environment – noisy Working hours must be flexible (shift work) • Will be required to work with hazardous substances • Will be required to collect samples from manufacturing areas • Be able to work in noisy/ hot environment
