Job Description

The Psychology Department at Wits is large and vibrant, with a strong research and professional‑training reputation. We are currently advertising 1 counselling psychology post in the department. Primary responsibilities would include teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate courses, production of research publications, supervision of postgraduate research, administrative responsibilities commensurate with the position.

Requirements:

  • PhD degree in Counselling Psychology or cognate field in Psychology
  • Masters degree in Counselling Psychology
  • Registration with the HPCSA in the category of Counselling Psychologist preferably for three years or more
  • Educational background, teaching and research interests in counselling psychology (e.g. psychotherapy, psychological assessment, psychopathology) and/or critical community psychology
  • Experience in teaching psychology at a tertiary level
  • Proven research ability as evidenced by peer‑reviewed publications, conference presentations, and/or research reports
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team

This will be a permanent post subject to a three‑year probationary period.

Responsibilities:

Teach courses relevant to the specialisation of counselling and/or community psychology, research methods and/or psychology at undergraduate and postgraduate level; contributions to course‑level curriculum development and transformation; academic administration; supervision of postgraduate students; willingness to pursue an active programme of research and research publication; and willingness to participate in the intellectual and public life of the school and university.
