About the Role:

The purpose of the Trainee Manager is to learn all the ins and outs of managing a supermarket, its products and the employees who make the store a success. The Trainee Manager will learn how to provide leadership and direct the highest level of quality service by creating a pleasant and friendly atmosphere, while treating every customer and team member like family. The Trainee Manager will assume responsibility for delivering on daily operational requirements as directed by the Branch Manager and facilitated through the Trainee Manager Programme. More specifically, the role will coordinate and execute activities related to sales, customer management, merchandising, stock management, cash handling, banking, financial controls, systems, reporting and administration, while also supporting with supervision and staffing requirements. The Trainee Manager will ensure all aspects of a retail store are executed with excellence to create a shopping experience that delights our customers.

What you'll do:

  • Manage customer experience and engagement
  • Supermarket people leadership, development, management and administration
  • Supermarket P&L management and reporting – achieve store sales and profit targets through effective execution of divisional strategies
  • Supermarket merchandising, pricing and promotional activity
  • Supermarket security, sales and record keeping procedures and practices
  • Supermarket housekeeping and compliance with health and safety, food safety and supermarket operational company policy and procedures
  • Supermarket people management functions including coordination of staffing schedules, performance management and people training and development

What you bring:

  • Grade 12 or equivalent
  • One year experience in a retail environment with exposure to the Supermarket systems and procedures
  • Ability to lead and take charge
  • Ability to adapt easily to a rotational experiential learning context
  • Computer Literate – MS Office Basic, Supermarket systems and technologies
  • Knowledge and understanding of:
    • Store operations management, promotional planning, merchandising, and stock handling principles
    • Food safety and hygiene and the OHSA
  • Learning agility and enthusiasm
  • Ability to deliver results with integrity
  • Quality orientation with strong attention to detail
  • Ability to lead and build a high performing team by coaching and developing others
  • Building a culture of trust and respect
